Both directions of Florida’s Turnpike in Broward County reopened around 11:35 a.m. after being shut down for about two hours from Hollywood Boulevard to Griffin Road while Davie agencies dealt with an ammonia leak.

The leak occurred at Reddy Ice, 5050 SW 51st St., which is east of the turnpike and west of State Road 7/U.S. 441. In addition to surrounding roads being shut down, nearby homes, including some developments on the other side of the turnpike, were evacuated as a precaution.

Davie police Sgt. Kelvin Urbaez said Davie Fire Rescue stopped the ammonia leak and declared the area clear.
