Mother faces charges after leaving children unattended

A Florida City mother is facing charges after one of her three children accidentally burned themselves while playing with a cigarette lighter while home alone.

According to Florida City Police, officers arrived to the 800 block of SW 2 Street and found a neighbor helping the eight-year-old girl. The child had suffered burns on her upper torso after accidentally lighting her shirt on fire. The child was airlifted to Jackson Memorial’s Burn Unit. Her condition is unknown.

According to Miami Herald news partner CBS4, Heydi Teresa Triminio was taken into custody when she returned to the house.

Florida City Police and the Florida Department of Children and Families are investigating. Triminio is expected to appear in court on Wednesday. It is not known if she has hired an lawyer.
