A bomb threat forced the evacuation of a Wilton Manors dental office.

According to police, at around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, a man barricaded himself in the building at Northeast 25th Street and Ninth Avenue and claimed to have an explosive device.

Fort Lauderdale police and the bomb squad were called. Everyone in the building got out safely and police closed surrounding streets. Area residents were advised to stay in their homes.

After a standoff that lasted several hours, the man was taken into custody.
