A Broward rabies alert has been extended to 120 days. Another feral cat tested positive

The length of a rabies alert in Broward County doubled to 120 days Thursday after the number of feral cats testing positive for rabies doubled from one to two.

Here’s what you need to know:

What area is covered by the rabies alert?

While the length of the rabies alert has doubled, the area covered remains the same — a chunk of Davie bordered by Florida’s Turnpike on the east, Davie Road on the west, Southwest 36th Court on the north and Orange Drive on the south.

What do you need to do?

Vaccinate your pets and livestock, your animal family members.

Keep your animal family members on your property or, when walking them, on a leash (most communities have leash laws).

Get them to a vet and call your area’s Animal Control number if your animal family member gets bitten by a wild animal.

Spay or neuter pets to keep the stray and feral pet population down.

Don’t litter and don’t keep trash uncovered. This attracts wild animals.

Wild animals are meant to be in the wild — don’t bring them into your home.
