Broward shooting leads to a Miami-Dade to Palm Beach I-95 chase of suspect, cops say
A Saturday night shooting in West Park led to a woman being sent to the hospital and the arrest of a suspect following a tri-county chase up Interstate 95, according to Broward Sheriff’s Office.
The victim is stable, Gerdy St. Louis, a BSO spokeswoman, said Monday in an email. She added that authorities won’t be releasing her name, citing a law that protects crime victims.
Shawn Michael Williams was taken into custody in Palm Beach County on Saturday night, St. Louis said Sunday night. The 41-year-old man from Hollywood was booked Sunday morning into the county’s main jail and a $15,000 bond was set, court records show.
Williams is facing charges of attempted first-degree murder, fleeing and eluding, and possession of a weapon by a felon, St. Louis said.
The shooting happened around 6 p.m. in the 4000 block of Southwest 18th Street in West Park, according to BSO. As their detectives investigated the incident, Miami-Dade police found the suspect in their jurisdiction. He then took off, racing north on Interstate 95 out of Miami-Dade, through Hallandale Beach, Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale and the rest of Broward County and into Palm Beach County.
Williams was arrested around 7:55 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 95 near Congress Avenue.
