Brightline train slams into pickup, hospitalizing one person, reports say
A Brightline train slammed into a pickup truck Friday afternoon, sending a person to the hospital, authorities say.
Around 5:40 p.m., Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue was called to the Brightline train hitting a car in the area of Southwest Third Street and South Dixie Highway near Hallandale Beach, Battalion Chief Michael Kane said.
The person was taken to Aventura Hospital as a trauma alert, he said. The identity of the man is not yet known.

Video released by Brightline shows the pickup crossing into the tracks while the railroad safety gates were down.
“Driving around the gates is a dangerous and illegal act that places you at risk and endangers the life of our passengers and crew,” Brightline said in a statement.

In early February, four Brightline collisions occurred within four days. In one case, the train hit a pedestrian and in another, a mother abandoned her car on the tracks before the train hit it.
