A man died after being hit by a Brightline train Thursday night in Hollywood as he tried to cross the tracks.

Around 6:50 p.m. Thursday, a Brightline train reportedly hit him in the area of Harrison Street and Dixie Highway, Hollywood police said. He died at the scene.

Police are still investigating what led up to the incident. A Brightline spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Streets in the area were closed and police advised drivers to use different routes in the meantime.

This is at least the sixth reported fatality involving Brightline since the express train returned to regular service in November after a 19-month pandemic hiatus. It continues a deadly run that data show makes Brightline the deadliest train per mile of track in the U.S. since the privately owned rail began full service in 2018.

This is a developing story and will be updated when more information is available.
