Man unloading cars from vehicle hauler killed when car slams into him

A man from Southwest Miami-Dade died Tuesday morning after a car slammed into him as he unloaded vehicles from a hauler in Pompano Beach.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, Ivan Figueras-Pino, 37, had pulled his tractor trailer over in the 400 block of South Dixie Highway and put on his hazard lights. He then lowered the ramp of the hauler and climbed in the back to remove the chains from a car on the top rack. That’s when a northbound driver crashed into him around 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Joshua Stein, of Oakland Park, drove a 2015 Hyundai Accent up the lowered ramp and hit Figueras-Pino, BSO said. Detectives said it did not appear that Stein attempted to stop or swerve to avoid the truck.

Figueras-Pino was taken to Broward Health North, where he died. Stein was treated for minor injuries and released from Broward Health North.

Detectives are investigating the cause of the crash.
