A plane with two people on board crashed in the Everglades in West Broward
A small airplane landed upside down in the Florida Everglades in West Broward County Thursday around 12:45 in the afternoon.
BSO Fire Rescue said the plane came down about 8 to 10 miles south of Interstate 75 in an area they reached to via an 8-mile airboat ride.
The two passengers, identified by BSO Fire Rescue as a pilot and student pilot, were able to get out and stand next to the plane, one even lounging on the flipped over fuselage. BSO said they had minor injuries.
A check of the FAA N-number, N65645, says it’s a 1982 Cessna 172P fixed-wing, single-engine plane owned by a Delaware Trust Company Trustee out of Wilmington, Delaware.
“With the vast number of serious and fatal aircraft accidents which have occurred over the years in the Western Broward Everglades, these pilots were extremely lucky to not only survive an incident such as this, but walk away relatively unscathed,” BSO Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael Kane said.
