They wore surgical masks and robbed a man at gunpoint, cops say. He was working on a boat.

Even thieves are trying to steer clear of the coronavirus.

Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives are searching for two men who robbed an Oakland Park resident at gunpoint while wearing surgical masks.

The robbery occurred just after 10:30 p.m. on May 3.

Two men, both of whom wore surgical masks, sneaked up on another man as he worked on his boat. The suspects then pulled at least one gun, ordered the man to get to the ground and demanded his wallet, deputies say. When they learned that he didn’t carry a wallet, the two ransacked his car for valuables.

The victim eventually made it to his feet and began heading to his front door. Video footage shows the two parties exchanging words before the man walks inside and the robbers flee the scene.

It’s unclear if a getaway vehicle aided their escape. Detectives are also unsure whether both men were armed.

One of the men was described as slim with a dark complexion. He was last seen wearing a dark Nike hoodie and light-colored shorts. The other was also characterized as a slim man with a dark complexion. He wore a hoodie and pants, both of which were dark.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Keith Rosen at 954-321-4270. Those wanting to remain anonymous can contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or online at browardcrimestoppers.org.
