Fiery crash on I-95 near Dania Beach kills three people. All southbound lanes closed
A fatal crash southbound on I-95 north Saturday morning has killed three people and seriously injured two others, said Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Yanko Reyes.
The crash, north of Griffin Road in Dania Beach around 3:30 a.m., blocked all of the southbound lanes, Reyes said.
According to the FHP, the sedan was traveling southbound on Interstate 95, north of State Road 818/Griffin.
The SUV, which had been carrying two women and one man, had already been involved in a separate crash that disabled it across the left and left center lanes, facing east, according to the accident report.
The driver, a 26-year-old woman, and a 25-year-old man, both from Fort Lauderdale, got out of the SUV while a woman remained inside. The passenger who stayed in the SUV died. Her age and residence was not released. The driver and the other passenger were seriously injured, according to FHP.
A 35-year-old man from Dania was driving the sedan. Troopers say he “was unable to avoid a collision” with the SUV.
The sedan’s front slammed into the SUV’s left side and both cars went up in flames.
The sedan’s driver and his passenger, a 25-year-old man from West Palm Beach, also died on the scene, FHP said.
The investigation is ongoing, Reyes said.
Traffic, lighter than the usual due to the coronavirus crisis, was diverted and FHP asks that drivers avoid the area.
