Rollerblader dead, car split, when driver crashes into tree, path, authorities say

A woman rollerblading on a walking path was killed when a driver speeding down a Pompano Beach street lost control of his car and hit a tree, according to Pompano Beach Fire Rescue.

The impact was so intense that the tree split the Nissan in half, ejecting both the driver and his female passenger, the department said.

The single-vehicle accident happened just after 5 p.m. Wednesday at 601 NE 10th St.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.

According to Pompano Beach Fire Rescue, the car “was traveling at a high rate of speed westbound,” when the accident happened.

“The car then struck a female who was rollerblading on the multipurpose trail (walking path)...” the department said. The woman, who was not identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man and woman in the car were taken to Broward Health North in critical condition.
