Happy New Year, Fort Lauderdale! Your sewer pipes are repaired (for now)
The repair of Monday’s two sewer pipe breaks highlight a New Year’s Day update on Fort Lauderdale’s repeatedly bursting pipes.
The latest from Wednesday morning
The city says the 12-inch pipe on Northeast 36th Street in Coral Ridge Country Club Estates and the 16-inch pipe on Northeast Fifth Street in Victoria Park both are back in service.
As for the 12-inch pipe, plans are being made to replace the whole thing, from Bayview Drive east to the cul-de-sac.
A new valve also was put in the Victoria Park pipe on Northeast 11th Avenue.
Road Closures
In the Virginia Young Park area, Southeast 10th Street and South Rio Vista Boulevard east of Southeast Ninth Avenue. Southeast Ninth Avenue from south of Southeast Eighth Street to Ponce de Leon Drive.
You can’t go east of Southeast Ninth Avenue off Southeast Ninth Street, Southeast 10th Street, South Rio Vista Boulevard and the north side of Ponce De Leon.
Precautionary water advisory
No swimming, fishing, paddle-boarding, kayaking, canoeing or individual person watercraft riding in an area bounded by Broward Boulevard on the north, Southeast 15th Street on the south, Poinciana Drive on the east and Southeast 18th Avenue on the west.
Water Sampling
The city says 10 of 18 locations passed water sampling testing on Monday. Not up to snuff were the east side of the Andrews Avenue Bridge; 1124 S. Rio Vista Blvd.; Ponce de Leon Drive and Northeast Ninth Street; Northwest 18th Avenue and Second Street; 1111 Ponce de Leon Dr.; the Himmarshee Canal locations of Southeast Second Street and Ninth Avenue; Southeast Second Street and 10th Avenue; and Southeast Second Street and Eighth Avenue.
