Man killed in Pembroke Pines gas station shooting
A dispute in the car wash area of a Pembroke Pines gas station Saturday ended in a shooting that left one man dead and detectives searching for the gunman, police said.
Pembroke Pines police reported that they were hunting for a suspect named Steven Charles Dawson, 28, of 6811 SW 13th Street, Pembroke Pines. He was last seen driving a silver Chevy Impala with black rims.
The unidentified victim was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, where he later died from multiple gunshot wounds.
The shooting took place just before 4 p.m. at the Chevron station at 1601 N. University Dr., said Pembroke Pines police.
“It was a confrontation between the victim and the suspect that led to the suspect pulling out a handgun,” said Sgt. Carlos Corretjer, a department spokesman.
Police said Dawson got into the confrontation with an employee of the car wash. The suspect then whipped out an unknown caliber handgun and shot at the victim multiple times, striking him twice in the back. He then took off from the gas station area in the Chevy Impala.
Late Saturday, police said Dawson remains on the run and “should be considered armed and dangerous.”
