A Coral Springs man who was rescued after falling off a boat in a Fort Lauderdale canal has died.

Anthony Brown’s 19-foot boat broke down Sunday on a canal near 15th Street Fisheries in Fort Lauderdale.

Several people on the boat helped get it to shore. That’s when Brown, 46, went overboard as he tried to tie it to a dock.

Brown went underwater and didn’t resurface. A team of five divers from the Fort Lauderdale Fire Department’s Dive Team found Brown after about 30 minutes.

He was taken to Broward Health Medical Center in critical condition. He later died at the hospital.
