Teen on scooter critically injured when car slams into him and takes off, cops say

Miami Herald File

A teen riding a motorized scooter over the weekend was critically injured when he was hit by a car, Fort Lauderdale police said Tuesday.

The driver of the maroon four-door sedan — possibly an Acura — never stopped to help the injured boy.

The hit-and-run crash happened just before 4 a.m. Saturday in the 600 block of North Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale.

Police said it wasn’t clear if the teen was driving his scooter in the roadway when he was hit.

“The driver of the vehicle did not stop to render aid and was last seen heading into Holiday Park,” police said in a news release.

As of Tuesday, the unidentified teen was still in critical condition at a local hospital, police said.

Investigators said the driver was described as a white female with short, brown, curly hair.

There is likely damage to the front end of the car and the windshield.
