The 15-year-old girl killed Monday afternoon when a driver struck her bike at a Pembroke Pines intersection has been identified as Pines resident Cassie Torres.

No charges have been filed against the driver, 53-year-old Amanda Hernandez, in the crash at Taft Street and Northwest 125th Avenue just after 5:07 p.m.

A Pembroke Pines police account of the crash said Torres rode her bike east on Taft’s south side sidewalk, then turned left to cross Taft at Northwest 125th Avenue. In her Mercedes C230, Hernandez was driving west on Taft in the left hand lane. There’s no light at the intersection.

“As the Mercedes traveled through the intersection, the bicycle rode into its path and was struck,” the Pines police account stated.

Though taken to Memorial Regional Hospital’s trauma center in Hollywood, Torres died at 6:32 p.m.

Hernandez remained on the scene. Her driving record in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade shows only a 2011 incident that resulted in tickets for speeding (47 mph in a 35 zone) and not wearing a seat belt. She paid $330 in fines.
