Woman critically injured, car mangled after collision with Brightline train, officials say
A woman was critically injured Tuesday afternoon when a Brightline train slammed into her car in Pompano Beach, according to Pompano Beach Fire Rescue.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
Pictures showed a heap of mangled metal with shattered glass not far from the train tracks.
According to Pompano Beach Fire Rescue, crews responded to Dixie Highway and Northeast 33rd Court just after noon after reports of a crash came in.
Firefighters found a 56-year-old woman “unconscious and trapped in her vehicle,” the department said in a news release. The woman was taken to Broward Health North in critical condition.
Since Brightline began testing in 2017, there have been at least seven people killed in accidents.
Brightline could not immediately be reached for comment.
