Two horses were euthanized and their jockeys injured Saturday following a collision during training at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach.
According to Hallandale Beach Fire Rescue, the collision happened before 5:45 a.m. The horses were so badly injured that euthanization was necessary, fire rescue said, and both jockeys were transported to Aventura Medical Center as trauma alerts.
Gulfstream Park is located at 901 S. Federal Highway.
One jockey sustained a fractured jaw and the other was quickly released from the hospital after treatment for a minor injury, Gulfstream spokesman David Joseph said.
“Two horses collided during training hours — Unfortunately both horses were euthanized,” Joseph wrote in an email. “The exercise riders were taken to a local hospital. One suffered a fractured jaw and the other was released.”
The track is hosting a horse race — the Florida Sire Stakes — Saturday, according to its website.
