Red light-running driver kills grandmother walking grandson to school, witnesses say

A Miramar resident walking her grandson to school Tuesday morning got fatally struck by the driver of a Chrysler 300, police say.

Marie St. Vil, 79, and her 13-year-old grandson used the crosswalk to cross Miramar Parkway at Fairmont Avenue Tuesday morning, police say. The Chrysler, heading west on Miramar Parkway and driven by Lauderhill resident Crystal Parker, did not stop at the red light at the intersection, witnesses told police.

The Chrysler hit St. Vil and her grandson. Both were taken to Hollywood’s Memorial Regional Hospital. St. Vil’s grandson survived with non-life threatening injuries. St. Vil was declared dead at the hospital.

The Chrysler’s hood had dents after the crash.

Miramar police spokesperson Tania Rues said Parker stayed at the scene and charges are pending. In Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, Parker’s driving record is clean.
