Hit-and-run driver hits family of four, including two small children, cops say

Miami Herald File

A mother, father and two children were injured Wednesday night near Fort Lauderdale beach after being hit by car, according to news reports.

The driver of the car, a white BMW, took off, crashed into several cars on A1A and Las Olas Boulevard and then fled on foot, police say.

Three of the victims were taken to a nearby hospital, police said. A 5-year-old and a 4-year-old were among those hit, along with their father, Miami Herald news partner CBS4 reported.

Claudia Martinez, the mother, who was slightly injured, told CBS4 that her family was waiting to cross the street.

"... A car came from the left hand side really fast and hit the other car beside it and it came toward us and hit my family and me and threw us to the side,” she told the station. “Then he reversed. I feel hopeless. My children were there. All I could do was think about them. I can’t imagine being without them and that man just coming and leaving and having no heart to stop.”

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department was searching for the driver.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
