UPDATE: Cori Butler was arrested in Leon County Monday. He's being charged with first degree murder.

One week after Travis Butler finished doing three years in prison, he was stabbed to death on July 4 after an argument with a convicted cocaine mover and dealer, Fort Lauderdale cops say.

That's Cori Butler, who turned 41 the day after his brother died.

Cops haven't released the subject of Wednesday's disagreement. Just that Travis Butler, 39, tried to end the matter by going into the house at 2500 Northwest 28th Ter. Cori Butler followed, grabbed a knife and stabbed his younger brother, they say. He left before police arrived.

Though police put Cori Butler's current residence in Fort Lauderdale —and he has lived in Lauderhill and Lauderdale Lakes since 1999 — he's bounced between cocaine and prison on cocaine charges. Four months for possession of coke and possession with intent to sell or deliver were followed by five years on the outside. That ended with three years for three counts of cocaine possession, conspiring to traffic drugs, being a felon with a firearm and felonious driving without a license.

The elder Butler finished that in 2008, and 11 months later, was starting on a 22-month sentence for cocaine possession and possession with intent to sell or deliver. He stayed out four years before doing almost two years for cocaine possession, a stretch that ended in April 2017.

Meanwhile, Travis Butler was doing three years after causing scratches and cuts to a woman, then hurling a softball-sized rock through the rear window of a Jeep containing the woman and Brandon Cole, a half-brother of Butler's. Prosecutors combined that with a felon in possession of a firearm charge from almost a year later and Butler served all the sentences concurrently.
