A 2-year-old girl's pool time on Monday morning ended with her being rushed to Joe Dimaggio Children's Hospital in critical condition, BSO Fire Rescue said.
BSO Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael Kane referred to it as a "near-drowning" and said Broward Sheriff's Office deputies were performing CPR on the child when fire-rescue workers arrived to a home in the 5300 block of Southwest 18th Street in West Park.
Florida law enforcement and fire-rescue agencies are quite vocal about encouraging parents to teach children to swim as soon as possible. Some local public pools offer swimming lessons at a reduced rate or free for residents.
