Fort Lauderdale mother and grandmother Bernice Jefferson made two Facebook posts Tuesday morning. One quoted the Holy Bible’s Old Testament, the book of Isaiah 41st chapter, 10th verse:

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Less than eight hours later, Jefferson was fatally shot in her Chateau Park Drive home in front of a daughter and grandchildren.

Fort Lauderdale police aren’t releasing the name of who shot Jefferson around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police do say the shooter knew the 55-year-old Jefferson, who was also called “Quick.”

“She didn’t deserve that,” Letraveya Jefferson told WSVN Channel 7. “You only get one mama, y’all. One mama. I don’t got no more chances with my mama. My mama was killed in front of me and my kids. My mama didn’t deserve to go like that. If y’all got your mama here, love y’all mama, dawg. I can’t get no other chance with my mama.”

Jefferson’s other Tuesday morning post featured a sunny picture with “Praying that you have a good and pleasant day.” With the photo, she advised “Be thankful for your beautiful life.”
