Broward deputy on domestic violence call shoots man at house, BSO says

A Broward sheriff’s deputy shot a man while responding to a domestic violence call Thursday morning in Lauderdale Lakes, according to BSO.

The wounded man was taken by BSO Fire Rescue to Broward Health Medical Center. The incident happened at a home at 3510 NW 33rd Ave.

Deputies were called to the home by a woman who said her brother was being violent, Miami Herald news partner CBS4 reported.

“The brother was violent, out of control,” Broward Sheriff Scott Israel told reporters at a news conference Thursday.

Israel said the deputy had no choice but to fire after the man charged at her. Attempts of using a Taser failed.

“The Taser seemed to have little to no effect on this man,” he said. “He charged at her. She fired multiple times. He was struck.”

According to the Sun Sentinel, the unidentified man remained in intensive care at Broward Health Medical Center.

Miami Herald news partner CBS4 contributed to this report.
