A dispute between two security guards at a South Florida water plant ended in gunfire early Sunday morning, Hollywood police said, with one of the guards hospitalized with a serious gunshot wound.
“At this moment, we do not know exactly what happened,” said Christian Lata, a Hollywood police officer. “We do know there was an altercation between the two guards.”
The wounded man was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, where his condition was unknown. The other was being questioned at the Hollywood Police Department, though no charges have been filed.
The shooting took place at the Hollywood Treatment Plant at 3441 Hollywood Blvd., where the guards were working.
Lata said the two are employees of Miami-based Regions Security and don’t work directly for the city. Regions employees hung up the telephone three times on a Miami Herald reporter seeking information on the shooting.
The wounded guard, 49-year-old Wilner Duce is in critical condition after losing a kidney in the shooting, his family told Miami Herald news partner CBS4.
“He’s a handsome person, he’s calm,” said Antoinine Pompee, Duce’s aunt. “He never had a problem with anyone.”
