7-year-old boy drowns at pool party in Deerfield Beach

A 7-year-old boy drowned at a weekend pool party in Deerfield Beach, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said Sunday.

Maliq Singletary, 7, was visiting a church friend Saturday afternoon with other children for swimming and a cookout. After initially getting out of the pool, Maliq jumped back in with his cousin. She surfaced but he didn’t, according to BSO.

The owner of the home, in the 600 block of Northwest Terrace, jumped into the water after being alerted to the emergency and pulled out Maliq.

The boy’s aunt and others did CPR until paramedics arrived. Maliq was airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center, where he died.

Meanwhile, in Hollywood, a 6-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after he nearly drowned Saturday afternoon at a Thomas Street home.
