Charges filed against Ft. Lauderdale officer in homeless-slap case

State prosecutors have filed three misdemeanor charges against a Fort Lauderdale police officer who was caught on cellphone video slapping a homeless man across the face.

A bystander, who witnessed the Feb. 22 incident at the downtown bus terminal, recorded it and posted the clip to YouTube. It prompted an immediate news conference, the city manager branded it a "disturbing" situation, and the chief of police promised a thorough investigation. On the video, Officer Victor Ramirez, 34, can be seen hovering over a man sitting on the ground and delivering a loud, open-handed smack across the man's face.
