A bag with $30,000 in cash and jewelry was taken as a man pumped gas, cops say

As Tomer Akerman pumped gas at a Lauderhill gas station, someone managed to open the front passenger door and snatch a bag containing $30,000 worth of cash and jewelry, police said.

On Monday, police released the video in hopes of identifying the thief.

The incident happened at about 4:30 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Chevron Gas Station in the 7100 block of North University Drive.

The video showed Akerman looking away from his car as another car stops close by and a man jumps out. The man appeared to crouch down, as he opened the door to the black Ford Explorer.

Police say Akerman was on the way to the Jewelry Exchange.

Investigators are looking for a newer white model Nissan Murano.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Lauderhill Police Department at 954-497-4700 or 954-717-4615.
