Man threatens Publix employees with butcher knife that they just sold to him, police say

A man bought an 8- to 10-inch butcher knife from Publix, walked out of the store, then threatened employees who had tried to stop him over concerns about shoplifting.

The incident took place around noon on July 27 at the Publix at 9951 Miramar Parkway. On Wednesday, Miramar police released a surveillance video as the suspect is still at large.

The video shows a man—dressed in all black—buying the knife along with a beer and a soda. Before buying the knife, employees told police they saw him lifting his shirt up as if he were stowing away items in his pants.

After paying, he opened the package with the knife before taking the receipt from the cashier, the video shows.

A second video shows him walking out of the store while two employees attempt to speak to him.

The employees told police he brandished the knife and threatened them, saying “You want some of this, mother------.”

The value of the alleged stolen items could not be determined because employees do not know what was stolen.
