BSO: Man trying to avoid arrest in Oakland Park swallows drugs, dies
A Miami man who arrived at an Oakland Park home during an undercover narcotics operation tried to avoid arrest by swallowing the drugs he was carrying.
But the decision ended up killing him, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.
Michel Rodriguez, 38, arrived at 1398 NE 32nd St., in Oakland Park at about 10 p.m. Wednesday as detectives with the Broward County Drug Task Force were conducting an investigation.
BSO said Rodriguez came to deliver methamphetamine when he saw detectives. He quickly swallowed the drugs, despite efforts to stop him, BSO said.
He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where he went into cardiac arrest and died.
