Genie Ward, 51, died in an SUV rollover accident Wednesday night in Oakland Park.

By the time a Chrysler 300 smashed into Genie Ward’s Ford Explorer, Ward likely was already dead at age 51.

As Broward Sheriff’s Office describes the fatal Wednesday night crash, Ward had been speeding southbound on Northwest Ninth Avenue in Oakland Park Wednesday night around 10 p.m. The SUV hopped the sidewalk to the right and rode the pedestrian concrete before swinging back across the southbound lanes. Before crossing the median, the SUV tumbled across the median and into the northbound lanes.

Ward got tossed out during the rollover. The Chrysler 300, driven by 73-year-old Whitey Copp, crashed into the SUV. Copp was taken to Holy Cross Hospital and was released.

BSO suspects impairment on Ward’s part. After racking up numerous arrests and convictions for cocaine possession from 1987 through 2010, Ward stayed out of criminal trouble since doing a year for cocaine possession in 2009-10.
