Body found floating in lake. Turns out there was an SUV, too.

The discovery of a man’s body in a Pompano Beach lake Monday triggered a traffic homicide investigation after an SUV was found submerged nearby.

A 911 call alerted the Broward Sheriff’s Office to the lake near 2921 Center Port Court around 2:20 p.m. Monday, BSO said. Pompano Beach Fire Rescue and BSO road patrol deputies responded to the call. Divers recovered the unidentified body and found a 2009 blue BMW Sports Wagon about 25 feet below the surface.

The fatal crash remains under investigation. Detectives suspect that the BMW was not speeding when it entered the water, according to the report. BSO’s Crime Scene Unit and the medical examiner’s office are still working to identify the body.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Donnard Huneke at 954-321-4842 or Broward Crime Stopper at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
