Man shot and killed at Pollo Tropical in Davie
A man was shot and killed in Davie Friday afternoon at a Pollo Tropical restaurant after an argument inside led to gunfire in the parking lot, police said. A suspect in the shooting was taken into custody.
The shooting, which happened around 1:20 p.m., occurred after a worker for Jorgensen Contract Services, a construction company based in Davie, and another patron in the restaurant started to argue, Capt. Dale Engle told the Sun Sentinel. The patron then followed the worker and his colleague outside to the parking lot, where he pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots, Engle said.
After the victim was shot, the coworker took him to a Chevron gas station next door, where police administered first aid and then transported the victim to Broward Health Medical Center. The victim died of his wounds.
Sgt. Mark Leone said Friday afternoon that police believe the suspect and the victim did not know each other. “There was some argument, we’re not sure what it was about,” Leone said.
Police set up a perimeter around the restaurant at the Tower Shops off Nova and University Drive, south of Interstate 595 after the shooting to investigate.
“We are heartbroken to learn that the victim in this senseless shooting has died, and our hearts go out to his family and loved ones,” Pollo Tropical said in a statement.
Police have not yet released the names of the victim or the suspect.
