A toddler falls from moving car. The child’s mom is charged with neglect
A mother is facing a child neglect charge after her 16-month-old — who was not in a car seat — fell out of a her car as she drove through Pembroke Pines Tuesday morning, according to police.
Tina Johnson, 22, is also facing a tampering charge after she picked her child up from the road, put the toddler back in the car and drove away, police said.
The incident happened just after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Southwest Second Street and Southwest 178th Avenue.
According to police, Johnson was making a right turn in her 2015 Nissan Altima when the left rear passenger seat opened and the child fell out.
A witness told police that Johnson got out of the car, picked the child up and “loaded the injured child into the car,” according to a news release.
Johnson then drove to a nearby CVS for treatment, police said.
The child was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Johnson was taken into custody.
