Woman dies in car crash days before her birthday

A woman was killed and another person was critically injured in a violent car crash early Sunday morning in Fort Lauderdale.

The accident happened just before 5 a.m. Sunday in the 1900 block of Northwest 31st Avenue.

Killed was Natalie Pinto, of Tamarac, who would have turned 35 Thursday.

According to police, a gray 2007 Toyota Camry, heading north on Northwest 31st Avenue, collided with a 2015 Altima at Northwest 19th Street.

The impact sent the Altima into a cement pole, according to police. Pinto and her passenger were both taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where Pinto died, police said.

Pinto's passenger was in critical condition. The occupants of the Toyota were also taken to Broward Medical Center, but police said they had non life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
