Memorial Day observances across South Florida

Ceremonies to honor the men and women in the U.S. Armed Forces who gave their lives to protect the nation’s freedoms will be held throughout South Florida on Monday, Memorial Day. Bagpipes, color guards, parades and a barbecue at PAMM will round out the day.

Miami-Dade County

City of Coral Gables Memorial Day Ceremony: A service will honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for freedom; 9-10 a.m., War Memorial Youth Center, 450 University Dr., Coral Gables. Free. 305-460-5600.

City of Doral Memorial Day Ceremony: Service will honor the men and women who gave their lives in service protecting the nation’s freedoms. Features an unveiling of the Vietnam Battle Cross Memorial; 10-11 a.m., Veterans Park, 10190 NW 33rd St., Doral. Free. 305-593-6611.

Miami Shores Village Memorial Day Ceremony: A day of remembrance, featuring guest speaker Michael Shepherd, a captain in the United States Army. Refreshments provided; 9 a.m., Memorial Park, Northeast Second Avenue and 94th Street. Free. City of North Miami Memorial Day Ceremony: A day of remembrance in tribute to the nation’s heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice to defend freedom and democracy; 10 a.m., Griffing Park, 12220 Griffing Blvd., North Miami. Free. 305-895-9840 or

Memorial Day Mass at Catholic Cemeteries: Celebrate the lives of men and women who have served in the U. S. Armed Forces. The Mass will be celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop Peter Baldacchino at 10 a.m. at Ascension Chapel, 11411 NW 25th St., Doral. 305-592-0521.

Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony in Miami: A wreath-laying ceremony featuring a presentation by Brig. Gen. Kevin M. Iiams, USMC Commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, South; a performance by the Singing Miamians chorus and a color guard parade; 11 a.m., Woodlawn Park Cemetery, 3260 SW Eighth St., Miami. Free.

Town of Surfside Memorial Day Ceremony: The event includes a presentation of colors, local Scout troops and special guests. Light refreshments provided; 10 a.m., Veterans Park, 8791 Collins Ave., Surfside. Free. 305-866-3635

City of Hialeah Memorial Day Ceremony: Honoring the memory of the men and women who gave their lives for the country’s freedom; 10 a.m.-noon; Triangle Park, S. Okeechobee Rd. and Palm Ave., Hialeah. Free. 305-883-5800.

Miami Springs Memorial Day Observance: The John Macdonald Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the city of Miami Springs will hold a ceremony; 10 a.m., War Memorial on Curtiss Parkway and Deer Run Drive. Free. 305-805-5000.

North Miami Beach Memorial Day Service: “Day to Remember” celebration will begin with a gun volley delivered by the North Miami Beach Police Department Honor Guard Unit, followed by the march of colors over the Snake Creek Canal Bridge led by the St. Andrew’s Drum and Pipe Band of Miami; 10 a.m., All Wars Memorial at Challenger Park, 16501 NE 16th Ave., North Miami Beach. 305-948-2957.

Memorial Day BBQ: Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) hosts this special celebration on the terrace overlooking Biscayne Bay. Enjoy live music by The Wynwoods, an indie bluegrass band, and barbecue specials. Barbecue specials, beer and wine are available for purchase. Admission price does not include food and drinks; museum opens at 10 a.m., BBQ and entertainment from 3-6 p.m., 1103 Biscayne Blvd., Miami. $16; free for PAMM members, Metromover riders and active duty military personnel, veterans and their family members.

Broward County

City of Fort Lauderdale Memorial Day Ceremony: Keynote speaker is Sgt. Kyle J. White, Medal of Honor recipient for Operation Enduring Freedom. Town of Davie Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony: Wear red, white and blue and bring an American flag. Parade starts at 10 a.m. along Orange Drive to the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds, 4271 Davie Rd, Davie. Ceremony begins immediately after the parade. Free.
