Palm Beach sheriff’s deputy fatally shoots man after he stabs his father to death
Rushing to a tense domestic violence call, Palm Beach County deputies barged into a son stabbing his father to death early Saturday morning, authorities said. Deputies tried to stop him but ended up fatally shooting the son.
Shortly after 3 a.m., Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to an armed domestic violence call in the 6400 block of Emerald Dunes Drive in West Palm Beach.
When deputies arrived, they found the father and son were in an armed confrontation. Heading inside, they saw the 20-year-old son, who has not been identified, stabbing his 52-year-old father with a sword, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies told the son to drop the weapon. When he refused a deputy shot him, police said. Authorities gave both men first aid but both died from their injuries, the sheriff’s office said.
The deputy who fired his weapon was placed on administrative leave with pay, as is standard protocol.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Division, the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are investigating.
