An altercation at a Broward home escalates into a man getting shot to death on I-95
Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives discovered that an altercation at a Pompano Beach home ultimately led to a man being shot and killed on I-95 on Sunday evening, according to deputies.
Around 6:10 p.m., BSO deputies responded to a call that an adult man, Xavier Williams, had been shot on I-95 southbound near Oakland Park Boulevard.
Williams, 35, was taken by paramedics to Broward Health Medical center, where he died.
Williams and a woman fought at a Pompano Beach home. The dynamics of their relationship were unclear.
Another man subsequently arrived to the house and left with the woman. A short time later, the man shot and hit Williams in the neck while they were driving separately on I-95, eventually leading to his death.
Detectives spoke to the man afterward, who claimed he acted in self-defense. The Broward State Attorney’s Office will decide whether criminal charges will be filed.
BSO deputies were joined at the scene of the crime by Florida Highway Patrol troopers, Oakland Park Fire Rescue and the Fort Lauderdale Police Department.
The investigation continues.
