A Mega Millions ticket bought in Florida narrowly missed the $627 million jackpot, but the player still won big, according to lottery officials.

One lucky Florida resident’s ticket matched 5 balls during the Mega Millions drawing Friday, Aug. 30, winning them a $1 million prize, officials said.

Friday’s numbers were 10, 17, 20, 24, 54 and the Mega Ball was 8.

According to officials, the ticket was purchased at a Publix in Plantation, west of Fort Lauderdale, WPEC reported.

It was a Quick Pick ticket, FloridaToday.com reported.

There was one other big winner from the latest drawing, and that ticket was sold in Wisconsin, officials said. Like the Florida player, they matched the first five numbers for a $1 million prize, but they also had a 4x Megaplier, which bumped their total winnings up to $4 million.

With no grand prize winners so far, the jackpot will increase from $627 million to an estimated $681 million for the next drawing on Tuesday, Sept. 3, officials say.

Not counting the $1 million winner, there were more than 85,000 other winning Mega Millions tickets sold in Florida for the Aug. 30 drawing, with prizes ranging from $2 to $10,000.

What to know about Mega Millions

Tickets cost $2 and can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times vary by state.

Mega Millions is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.
