A person trying to drive past lowered railroad crossing gates was hit by a Brightline train Wednesday morning in Oakland Park.

Around 9:45 a.m., Broward County Sheriff deputies were called to the scene of a car being struck by a train in the area of 3400 North Dixie Highway, BSO said.

The driver was taken to a hospital as a precaution, deputies added.

Brightline says the driver was trespassing as they sped around a lowered safety gate, which is illegal.
