Sailboat from Cuba on the way to Florida has not been seen since the weekend

The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for an overdue sailboat that left Cuba last Saturday en route to South Florida.

The Coast Guard believes eight people, including two children, were on board when it departed, according to a statement the agency released on Twitter Friday morning.

The statement asked all boaters in the area to be on the lookout for the vessel and to call the Coast Guard on the radio on Channel 16 or by phone at 305-415-6800 or (305) 292-8727.
