Three people on capsized fishing boat rescued by BSO deputies, video shows
With their small fishing boat overturned in the rough water off Pompano Beach late Tuesday night, three men frantically flashed a light toward the shore.
In a coordinated effort between the Broward Sheriff’s Office’s marine, aviation and patrol units, deputies were able to locate the men and rescue them from the capsized boat.
On Wednesday, BSO released an infrared video of the rescue from the sky.
According to BSO, a call came in around 9 p.m. reporting that there were three people in distress on top of their capsized boat about a mile from the Pompano Beach shore.
Patrol deputies responded to the area of 1300 N. Ocean Dr. and saw the flashing light.
Working with the aviation unit, deputies were able to guide the marine patrol boat “through the rough waters” and find the stranded boaters.
The men — who were all wearing life jackets — were sitting on top of their overturned boat when the marine patrol arrived.
“One by one, the men were pulled onto the marine boat and safely brought back to shore,” BSO said in a news release. “Deputies believe the boat capsized due to the high winds and 4- to 5-foot sea conditions.”
No injuries were reported.
