He tried to breach Lauderdale airport security, cops say. Two hours later he was dead
A Miramar man died Thursday morning after trying to breach a Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport security checkpoint, deputies say.
Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at Terminal #3 just before 9:15 a.m. in response to reports of a man, later identified as Kevon Todd, yelling at Jet Blue employees.
Todd, 29, “became irrational” when he saw the deputies and began running toward the TSA security checkpoint area, according to BSO.
Todd and the two responding deputies had a “physical struggle,” BSO said, but would not provide details, citing an open investigation. Todd was eventually detained and taken to the front of the terminal, where deputies say he became unresponsive.
Paramedics rushed Todd to Broward Health Medical Center. Roughly two hours after his initial encounter with BSO, doctors pronounced him dead.
Todd’s cause of death is unknown. However, BSO told WPLG that he had suffered a “medical episode” before he was taken to the hospital.
The investigation is ongoing.
