It’s a boy! South Florida’s first baby of 2020 arrives at Kendall Regional Medical Center

South Florida welcomed its first baby of the New Year.

A boy arrived at Kendall Regional Medical Center at 12:16 a.m. Wednesday. His parents, Alexis Chavarria and Katherine Sinay, named their firstborn Liam Chavarria. Liam weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces and measured 21 inches. Despite being born a week behind schedule, he is the first baby to be born in 2020 in Miami-Dade County and Broward.

After giving birth for the first time, the baby’s mother said, “I feel good.”

Chavarria and Sinay, both natives of Guatemala, reside in South Florida.
