Making the wrong Subway sandwich got her mother shot at, police say

During a much needed break on Black Friday, a Walmart manager walked into a Palm Springs, Florida, Subway hungry for a sandwich. He asked for a sub. Haley Fletcher made him a wrap.

The Walmart manager may not have been too worried, but the mix-up was about to cause chaos.

Fletcher was working with Destin Garica, 18, that day. When Garcia caught wind that his co-worker had given the customer the wrong sandwich, he yelled at her. He told her the price difference between sub and wrap is coming out of her wallet, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said.

The woman didn’t answer him, and walked away.

This didn’t sit right with Garcia.

The next morning, the woman woke up to the sounds of Garcia yelling outside of her home. The Subway worker drove to his colleague’s home and encountered her mother, Cassie Curler, who walked out to meet him.

He started to yell at the mother about “her daughter making the wrong sandwich” the other day, deputies said. When she told him to leave, Garcia became irate and chest-bumped the mother and sent her stumbling backward.

Meanwhile, her husband stormed out of the house and demanded that Garcia hit the road. Garcia then pulled out a small gun and said: “Do you think it’s a game?”

As Garcia’s co-worker also stepped out of the home to see what the commotion was, she saw him shoot twice at the ground where her mother was standing, deputies said.

Everyone ran and scattered as Garcia dove into his car and sped away.

Deputies didn’t say if anyone was injured.

Deputies arrested Garcia on Sunday, two weeks after the shooting. He was charged with aggravated assault and battery. He remains in a Palm Beach County jail on a $101,000 bond.
