Broward deputies lift lockdown at Weston schools

Four schools in the city of Weston were placed on lockdown Friday morning into Friday afternoon following emailed and text messaged shooting threats.

Police announced the schools were all clear at 2 p.m.

It was not immediately clear if there were any arrests. Students posted several videos on social media of Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies checking backpacks.

The schools were Cypress Bay High School, Falcon Cove Elementary School, Manatee Bay Elementary School and Everglades Elementary School, according to a statement released on Twitter from the City of Weston.

The main source of concern appeared to be Cypress Bay, where police placed it on a “Code Red” lockdown, which is the most serious threat level. Falcon Cove was also put on under a Code Red, but only because of its proximity to the high school, on Bonaventure Boulevard, according to the Weston announcement.

The City of Weston denied on its Twitter page that students were being arrested on drug charges during the sweep of the school.

“They are searching for weapons. They are doing an excellent and tedious job ensuring student safety,” the city said in a statement.
