Want to name these sea lion pups? You may score a close encounter with marine life

Miami Seaquarium recently welcomed two sea lion pups — one girl and one boy — to its marine family and now the theme park is turning to the public to give them names.

Two of the sea lion pups head for the water as the Miami Seaquarium asked the public’s help in naming its new two sea lion pups - a female, and male on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at the Miami Seaquarium. The female pup was born from the sea lion, “Sushi” has a choice of four names: Wassabi, Ginger, Wonton, and Sashimi. The male pup was born from the sea lion, “Wahoo” has also a choice of four names: Flash, Champ, Justify, and Thunder.

Through 11:59 p.m. Sept. 14, anyone can vote for their favorite names from a list of four for each of the pups. By voting, you get a chance to win a seal experience for two, including swimming with them.

The names choices for the girl are: Wasabi, Ginger, Won Ton and Sashimi, a tribute to the pup’s mom Sushi.

The names for the boy follow a champion theme: Thunder, Flash, Champ and Justify.

Amy Spaulding, Miami Seaquarium assistant supervisor of animal training, said the contest was a fun way for the public to get involved.

“”We want you guys . . . to come down here and help us name our babies,” she said.
