Fiat Chrysler's all but begging Florida drivers who need their Takata airbags replaced to do so before the July 4 holiday.
Despite May being declared "Airbag Recall Month," the car manufacturer says there are still 1.3 million Florida cars and SUVs from all car makers that need their Takata airbags replaced.
Defective Takata airbags are at risk of rupturing, spraying metal shrapnel into the vehicle causing serious damage or even death to drivers and their passengers," according to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. "The risk is higher in hot, humid climates like Florida."
Local Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram dealers' service departments have the parts to make the free Takata airbag repairs for any make of vehicle. Go to the Check To Protect website with your Vehicle Identification Number — it's on your car registration, insurance and maybe your car service documents — to find out if your airbag has been recalled.
