A Miami native who graduated from Columbus High School will take the reins of the FBI's regional office at the end of October.

Robert Lasky has been appointed as the special agent in charge of the Miami field office with more than 400 agents whose territory runs from Key West to Fort Pierce, the FBI said Wednesday.

Lasky, who grew up in the Kendall area and graduated from the University of Florida and University of Miami Law School, started his career with the FBI in 1998. Most recently, he has served as the special agent in charge of the FBI's field office in Mobile, Ala.

Lasky will replace George Piro, who has served as the special agent in charge of the Miami field office since 2014. Piro has been promoted to assistant director of the International Operations Division at FBI headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Piro, who joined the FBI in 1999, is known as the FBI agent who interrogated Saddam Hussein after his capture during the U.S.-Iraq war in 2003.
